02 / Teaching
Slowly, and without judgement
I teach the way I wish I had been taught: a lot of looking, very little correcting. Beginners are genuinely welcome, and materials for the first session are always on me.
A good part of my week is spent facilitating with senior groups, in care communities and at day centres across the Bay. Those sessions are seated, unhurried, adapted to the room and to the hands in it, and no one has to call themselves an artist.
The studio classes run from the Mission, and the rest of it travels. I pack the whole kit into the car and run nights across the entire region — San Francisco, the East Bay, Marin, the Peninsula, up through wine country. If a table fits in the room, I can teach at it.
Glass Mosaic Workshop

Beginner, glass and tile, Saturdays 10am
Cutting, nipping, setting and grouting. You leave the last session with a finished piece and all your fingers.
Moon Painting, Thursday Nights
$50 / session
All levels, mixed media, 6 to 9pm
Layering, pouring, scraping back. A standing group of eight. Bring what you are working on or start something with me.
Assemblage from Found Things
$180 / weekend
All levels, bone, wood, metal, salvage
Bring a box of things you cannot throw away. We work out what they want to become and how to join them safely.
Moon Painting Night, at Your Venue

A dark-canvas, gold-and-silver moon painting evening for 10 to 30 guests, run by a working artist rather than a script. I bring everything — canvases, metallics, aprons, and the pace of a good dinner party. You bring the room and the corkscrew. Public seats from $65 when a venue hosts an open night.

Facilitated sessions for care communities and day centres across the Bay. Adapted materials, nothing sharp, no experience needed, and nobody has to finish anything.

Memorials, altars, and things with a moon in them
A painting for a particular wall. A mosaic on something you already own. A reliquary for a creature you loved, or for ashes, or for a marriage. Bring me the object and the story and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.

$110 an hour, any level, any medium, in the Mission studio or over video. Come with a problem, a portfolio, or a person you love who has always wanted to make something.
Put your name and “one to one” in the Venmo note, and I will email you to set the time. Vouchers are good for a year and can be given to anyone.
